William Llyod Garrison
As a social reformer, journalist, and an American abolitionalist, William Lloyd Garrison is well known for being the editor of The Liberator, an anti-slavery publication. He founded the New England Anti-Slavery Society in 1833, and later joined others to form the American Anti-Slavery Society. Garrison advocated the immediate emancipation of slaves, and so he was an immedialist, opposite of gradualists--people who wanted the graduate emancipation of slaves. |
