John Winthrop
 | Probably the most important recruit to the Massachusetts Bay Colony was John Winthrop. At the colony, he was elected governor and arranged great Puritan migrations to America. Winthrop devised the term "a city upon a hill" which was his way of saying that the colony be an example of a perfect religious community especially towards Great Britain. |
