Harriet Beecher Stowe
Harriet Beecher Stowe is the author of the famous novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin, which depicted life under slavery. The novel became very influential, increasing anti-slavery forces in the North while casuing uproar in the South, and eventually making its way into politics. It even made its way into Europe, possibly selling more in Britain than in the United States. It is obvious that Stowe was a strong abolitionist. |
