Rachel Carson
As an American marine biologist and nature writer, Rachel Louise Carson can be credited for advancing the global environmental movement. In the 1950's she turned her attention to the environmental problems synthetic pesticides can cause. In her 1962 book, Silent Spring, Carson was able to get the public attention for environmental concerns. Her book soon inspired the creation of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). |
