Andrew Carnegie
As a Scottish-American business man and entrepreneur, Andrew Carnegie was a strong leader of industry in the late 1800s and early 1900s. He earned most of his fortune in the steel industry. In the 1870's, he founded the Carnegie Steel Company in which he used vertical integration. He soon sold the company to J.P. Morgan who turned it into U.S. Steel. Once he became one of the richest men in America, he started to devote his time to charity and became a philanthropist. Carnegie wrote "The Gospel of Wealth" which states his belief that the rich should give back to society. Having being born into poverty, Carnegie claims a true "rags to riches" story. |
