Ulysses S. Grant
Having fought under Gen. Zachary Taylor during the Mexican-American War, Ulysses S. Grant was appointed by Abraham Lincoln as General in Chief in March 1864, during the Civil War. Some of his successes include pinning down Gen. Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia, and soon causing his army to surrender thus allowing the Union to win the War. Grant quickly became a military hero, but when he entered office, he was unprepared and was not the best of presidents. |
