Thomas Jefferson
In the Revolution of 1800, power in the government from one political party was peacefully transferred to another. Thomas Jefferson, a democratic-republican, won this election thus being the third President of the United States. Before his role as president, Jefferson worked as minister to France and also as Secretary of State in Washington's cabinet (where he soon resigned due to conflict between him and Hamilton about the French Revolution). Jefferson is well known for being the writer of the Declaration of Independence and being one of the Founding Fathers. During his years as president, Jefferson promoted an agrarian society. He is known for decreasing the size of the military and purchasing the Lousiana Territory from Napoleon in 1803. |
